Create, Dance, Inspire - Since 1998, Citie Ballet has been a leader in providing
the best in ballet and contemporary performance for aspiring young dancers. Citie Ballet training creates opportunities for intermediate and advanced ballet dancers to work together and dedicate themselves to performance excellence at a pre-professional level.
Citie Ballet has since 1998 been a leader in providing the best in ballet and contemporary performing challenges for aspiring young dancers. Under the artistic direction of William Thompson the Company has commissioned and staged a range of new works, provided opportunities for emerging choreographers and sponsored a series of visiting performers and choreographers, including Colin Dunne and Chan Hon Goh.
Production highlights include World of Dance, in 2002 and Lips Love Legs in 2005. In 2004, the Company took responsibility for the Community Spirit series, which provides a showcase for Edmonton choreographers as well as being a charitable production for local childrens’ support groups. In 2006, William Thompson was promoted to Artistic Director Emeritus. François Chevennement became Artistic Director, bringing in Laurence Menotti as Ballet Mistress.
Company dancers simultaneously train at a variety of dance schools in the Edmonton area. Citie Ballet training creates opportunities for intermediate and advanced ballet dancers to work together and dedicate themselves to performance excellence at a pre-professional level. Performance experience in standard repertoire and original choreography provides the aspiring professional dancer with an important advantage.
When Chopin died, only three of his compositions were played at his funeral. They were: the Preludes in e minor No.4 and b minor No.6 and the Funeral March from his Sonata in b flat minor.
