Simon-Marc de Freitas received his Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, majoring in Collaborative piano.  He completed his Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance) degree at the University of British Columbia, where he studied under Dr. Terence Dawson and Dr. Corey Hamm.  As a recipient of several grants and scholarships, he has attended prestigious international music programs in Canada, Poland and Austria, including the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Simon-Marc is currently an instructor of piano at Grant MacEwan University Conservatory.  He is in demand as a soloist as well as a collaborative pianist.  Simon-Marc is affiliated with the Alberta Piano Teacher’s Association, the Alberta Accompanist’s Association as well as the Alberta Registered Music Teacher’s Association.

Chopin created a new musical form – a Mazurka. His Mazurkas written under the influence of Polish folk music vary is tempo and character depending on which of the Polish dances they are based on: Mazur (rather fast and powerful), Oberek(very fast and happy) or Kujawiak (slow and melancholic).
